Accenture fresher hiring: complete guide

Accenture hires freshers as Associate Software Engineers (ASE) through a multi-stage online assessment: a cognitive test, a technical test, coding, and an automated spoken English round. Each stage can eliminate you, which makes Accenture different from tests where one good section can carry a weak one. This guide explains every stage, with examples, and gives you a 21-day plan.

Key takeaways

  • Freshers usually join Accenture as Associate Software Engineers; strong coders can get a higher-paid advanced track.
  • The online process has a cognitive test, a technical test, coding and a spoken English test.
  • Most stages are eliminatory, so you need to clear every one, not just do well overall.
  • The communication round is automated: speak clearly at a normal pace and complete every task.
  • Your coding and technical interview results usually decide the track.
  • Accenture never charges candidates for hiring or joining.

How Accenture hires freshers

Accenture fills fresher roles through campus drives run with colleges and off-campus drives announced on its careers site. The steps are the same in both: online assessments, an interview, then an offer. Most rounds are taken online from home with a webcam, so a quiet room and a stable connection are part of your preparation.

ASE vs Advanced ASE

RoleWhat it isHow it is decidedPackage reported in recent drives
Associate Software Engineer (ASE)The main fresher role in delivery projectsClearing all assessments and the interviewAbout ₹4.5 lakh a year
Advanced ASE / specialist trackRoles needing stronger programming skillsHigher coding scores and a stronger technical interviewAbout ₹6.5 lakh a year and above

Treat these as indications from recent drives. The track and package in your offer letter are what count.

Who can apply

  • Degree: B.E., B.Tech, M.E., M.Tech, MCA or M.Sc in computer science or IT, as listed in the drive notice.
  • Pass-out year: the batch named in the notice.
  • Marks: the cut-off is set per drive; many recent notices have used about 60 to 65 percent.
  • Backlogs: no active backlogs at the time of selection in most drives.
  • Gap: small education gaps are usually accepted when declared; check the limit.

Selection process

  1. Cognitive assessment. Reasoning and English, online.
  2. Technical assessment. Computer science basics and pseudocode.
  3. Coding round. Usually two problems in an online editor.
  4. Communication assessment. An automated spoken English test.
  5. Interview. Technical and HR questions, often in one conversation.

Some drives combine or reorder these steps; your test invitation explains the order.

Cognitive assessment

This checks how you think rather than what you remember: critical reasoning, abstract reasoning (patterns in shapes and symbols) and verbal ability.

Q.Critical reasoning: “All interns attend the training. Ravi attends the training.” Can you conclude Ravi is an intern?

No. The statement says every intern attends, not that only interns attend. Others may attend too. Questions like this test whether you read exactly what is written.

For abstract reasoning, look for one change at a time between figures: rotation, count of shapes, or shading. Our aptitude guide covers reasoning in more depth.

Technical assessment

Multiple-choice questions on computer science basics: pseudocode, operating systems, networking, databases and common programming concepts. You do not need advanced theory, but you do need the fundamentals clear.

Q.What does this pseudocode print? x = 5; repeat 3 times: x = x * 2 - 3; print x

Turn 1: 5 × 2 − 3 = 7. Turn 2: 7 × 2 − 3 = 11. Turn 3: 11 × 2 − 3 = 19.

It prints 19. Trace each turn on paper; most mistakes come from skipping a step.

Coding round

Usually two problems, often one easy and one medium, solved in an online editor. Your results here weigh heavily in deciding between ASE and the advanced track.

  • Strings: reversing, palindromes, counting characters
  • Arrays: maximum, second maximum, rotation
  • Number problems: primes, digit sums, factorials
  • Sorting and searching
  • Hash maps for frequencies
  • Exact input and output format
Get partial marks: Submit a working solution first, then improve it. Hidden test cases are often scored separately.

Communication assessment

This is an automated spoken English test. You speak into your microphone and software scores your pronunciation, fluency, grammar and understanding. Typical tasks: reading sentences aloud, repeating a sentence you hear, answering short questions and retelling a short story.

  • Use a quiet room and a headset with a microphone if you can.
  • Speak at a normal pace; fast speech is scored lower, not higher.
  • If you miss a word while repeating a sentence, say the rest clearly instead of stopping.
  • Practise by reading a news article aloud for ten minutes every day for two weeks.

5–7Verbal abilityGrammar, reading and sentence ordering, 20 a day
8–11Technical basicsOS, networks, DBMS and pseudocode tracing

Interview

Often a single interview mixing technical and HR questions: your project, OOP concepts, a simple SQL query, a small coding question, and questions on teamwork, relocation and shifts.

  • Explain your final-year project and your exact role in it.
  • What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?
  • Write a SQL query to count employees in each department.
  • Tell me about a time you worked in a team under a deadline.
  • Are you comfortable relocating and working in shifts?

Offer and joining

Offers come by email from Accenture, followed by background verification. Joining dates are shared later, and new joiners start with training before project work.

  • A fee to confirm an Accenture offer, book training or speed up joining.
  • An offer letter from a personal email address.
  • A job offered without any assessment or interview.

These are scams. See our fake job and scam guide.

Common mistakes in the Accenture process

Most candidates who miss out do so for avoidable reasons. Check yourself against this list a week before the test.

  • Preparing only aptitude and ignoring the communication round, which is eliminatory.
  • Speaking very fast in the spoken English test to sound fluent.
  • Skipping CS basics such as operating systems and networking in the technical test.
  • Spending the whole coding time on the harder problem.
  • Using a laptop with an unreliable microphone or camera.
  • Assuming one strong section makes up for a weak one.

Test-day checklist

Online tests are proctored through your camera and screen. Small setup problems can end a test early, so run through this list on the day.

  • Charge your laptop and keep the charger plugged in.
  • Test your internet, camera and microphone an hour before.
  • Keep your ID card and admit card or test email ready.
  • Sit alone in a quiet, well-lit room with nothing on the desk.
  • Keep rough paper and a pen only if the instructions allow them.
  • Log in early and read every instruction before starting.
If something goes wrong: Note the time, take a screenshot if you can, and email the support address given in your test invitation straight away. Do not open other websites or apps to look for help during the test.
