Job description
IBM India Systems Development Lab (ISDL) is hiring Software Engineers to work on the development of IBM Systems products across areas such as operating systems, firmware, systems software, storage software, and cloud software. The role covers multiple stages of product development, including design, development, testing, validation, and support.
Depending on the team, engineers may work on systems and cloud software, AI solutions, Linux, AIX, firmware, storage, virtualization, performance engineering, or enterprise system design. Responsibilities can include designing enhancements, coding, test automation, debugging, performance analysis, developing features, and supporting IBM Systems products.
The role also provides opportunities to work with technologies such as hybrid cloud, AI, containers, Kubernetes, virtualization, Linux, open-source software, and enterprise infrastructure. Engineers may contribute to software development across the complete product lifecycle while working with global teams.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree and strong foundations in computer science, software development, operating systems, programming, and data structures. The specific technical requirements vary depending on the IBM Systems team and position.
For Systems and Cloud Software roles, knowledge of operating systems, OpenStack, Kubernetes, container technologies, cloud concepts, security, virtualization, REST APIs, DevOps, and microservices is relevant. Programming experience in C, C++, Go, Python, Ansible, or Shell scripting is also mentioned.
AI-focused positions require knowledge of AI/ML/DL, Linux, Kubernetes, REST APIs, data science, machine learning and deep learning frameworks, NLP, and databases. Other teams may require skills in Java, JavaScript, ReactJS, HTML, CSS, Linux kernel development, C/C++, firmware, Git, Jenkins, Verilog, or VHDL.

About IBM
Candidates should be pursuing a B.E./B.Tech./M.Tech./MCA in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, IT, or a related field. Strong programming knowledge in Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript is required, along with knowledge of Data Structures, Algorithms, and Object-Oriented Programming.
Candidates should have a basic understanding of Machine Learning and Generative AI, along with knowledge of REST APIs, backend development, web development frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js, and databases including SQL and NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB or PostgreSQL.
Familiarity with Git, version control, CI/CD pipelines, Agile software development, and cloud-native technologies is expected. Preferred experience includes LLMs, Prompt Engineering, RAG, Vector Databases, and AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or LlamaIndex.
Exposure to AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, React, Node.js, Spring Boot, or FastAPI is also preferred.

Selection and interview process
